Flying the flag......

Today I am posting the card that I made for Heather to give Matthew, she does sometimes help but she has been busy over the holidays doing horsey jobs. The card is quite large for me and the base layer is made from an A4 sheet of 'Baja Breeze' SU cardstock, folded in half to make a card with a A5 front, and do you recognise the design??
The design/ layout is taken from a card we made at training with Julie, and I just re-worked it to fit a larger card. The only try-ing bit was getting my 'Square Lattice Embossing Folder' to emboss an area that is larger than the folder its self, this meant take the card through the 'Big Shot' twice, just repositioning the folder and not winding over the embossing you did first.....it did take me two attempts....and in folders with such a ridged pattern you may see a join line, but the finished effect was pleasing!
I even decorated the inside to match the front, I had some discontinued Patterened papers to use up to make the bunting for the card front and had also stamped and punched a few with co-ordinating Ink pad & the scalloped edge bunting stamp, from 'Pennant Parade'. I so love it that SU takes the hassle out of getting things to co-ordinate, and at a recent workshop I demonstrated at, I really flew the flag..... that SU have really thought about what they do and that its great that you can easily get everything you need for a project that matches and co-ordinates perfectly, not just paper cards & inks, but finishing touches such as buttons, brads & ribbons too! So I just carried a similar decoration over to the inside, the sentiment came from a new set 'Petite Pairs', I like these as on a smaller card you can put part of the sentiment on the front of your card and the other bit on the inside, or maybe if you have made a larger card like me, use the 'Stamp-a-ma-jig' and put it all on the inside!
I made a little rosette for the front on which I put a greeting from the 'Pennant Parade' stamp set. Here you can see that the large birthday greeting, taken from 'Curly Cute' is layered on a strip of card. on top of the embossing, and how 'Crumb Cake' ink has been sponged around the edges of the white to take the glare off.On the blog candy draw for yesterday, I have had over 20 entries so far, I do have to check my spam box though!! I will be back tomorrow with the draw. xXx

Birthday Bonanza Blog Candy!!!

Today is Matthews 9Th birthday, and a couple of weeks ago he got his present........some pigs......yep! real, live, Stinky Pigs!!
So here is his Pig themed birthday card, it's made with all 'Stampin' Up!' products and the pig was made by using a bonanza of our fantastic punches! It's nice to show punches used to create, something different, and quite often it is called 'Punch Art'.
I have even added a touch of SU Bling to it.....and he hasn't noticed!!Now as birthday are something to celebrate, I am running a blog candy competition, all you have to do is, send me an email sally-johoughton@hotmail.co.uk Stating which punches I have used to create just the Pig with, to give you a glue they can be found in the SU current 'Ideas Book & Catalogue'.Entries close at 12 noon, UK time, Saturday 29Th of October, and the correct answers will, go in to a Hat and Matt will draw the winner. Please do leave comments but remember that if you tell everyone your answer there, you may be giving the game away!!I look forward to your entries pinging, up in my email box, and I will do a post/ tutorial on how to create the pig and also the easel card, using the 'Bigz Scallop Square Die', on Sunday.

Ladybird, Ladybird.....

Fly away home......,

the desk is a mess, and the children are still home!

Yep! My desk is a mess, but with a week and a half to go of the school holidays I have had little time to craft, let alone clear my desk! Here are a couple of cards I put together this morning, I had played around making the ladybugs, with the 'Pick a petal' SU stamp set, which has been stashed at the back of my stamp drawer and not seen much light of day.

Combined with the 'Stampin' Up!' Scallop Edge Punch and embossing of the 'Whisper White' card base with the 'Perfect Polka Dots' Embossing Folder and the 'Pick a petal' stamped in 'Basic Black' and 'Poppy Parade', you can make some clean and crisp cards, that are still fun!

The sentiment for the vertical card came from the 'Hello Again' Stamp set. and the dotty frame, from 'Four Frames'.

The antenna were added with black pen to the vertical card and topped with some SU bling.

For the horizontal card, little scraps of 'Basic Black' card were snipped and again topped with SU bling, the sentiment for this card came from 'Flight of the butterfly'.

As you can see I also sponged some 'Basic Black' around the ladybug and label.....I do love sponging ink on stuff!!

Hopefully I will post again before the end of the week, I have two more little lady bugs made up, so will have to come up with a project for those, before they are swallowed up by the mess of the desk! xXXx

Just Believe........

There is a 'scrummy' silhouette style, stamp set- from Stampin' Up!, that is called 'Just Believe', and after seeing the set used with a brayer on Becki's blog:

http://beckiscraftycreations.blogspot.com/2011/06/just-believe.html
I was inspired to get it out, and have a play, I have to admit that I didn't use the brayer, but used the sponging technique, and I am going to share this card idea tonight with the lovely Linda Kings Craft group, were I am demonstrating.

it has a lovely sentiment in, can you see it on the the bottom Right of the picture??......

While creating, I got thinking about the title of the stamp set, and thought that it can mean so much, for so many, but today for me it means:

  • If you believe it is summer, the sun will be out....as I glance out of the window the sun is sort of shinning, through the grey clouds!!

  • If you believe in yourself you can make things happen..... over the week I have made more, new Stampin' Up! friends xx

  • If you believe you have something enjoyable, to share........share it and spread the enjoyment.

Yes! they are broad and sweeping statements, but to me they are meaningful,

But what is your 'Just believe....?'

I hope you like the cards, I love having the 'Top note' die to use with my 'Big Shot'. the large fronds image, from the 'Just Believe' stamp set has been stamped in classic black and then the 2nd and 3rd impression used to add depth, I then inked each card panel, with a different in colour ink, the pop effect you get is very striking! to some I added the big sentiment and to others just the shorter sentiments from the same set, using the stamp-a-ma-jig....tools that work are a god send!!

The stunning 'is it blue or maybe purple' of 'Concord Crush' Ink.

'Peach Parfait' Ink....with a tempting warmness!

'Pear Pizzazz' Ink...that is 'ooo soooo' very lush!

'Blushing Bride' Ink.....that is both demure & striking!

And the fiery red of 'Poppy Parade' ink!

I have also included a couple of side views to show, the little cheating version of a easel card, I had created! it's nice to do something that looks a little different, to a square or rectangle card, without lots of hassle, the 'Top Note' die is a must have for this!

Looking forward to tonight, but if you can't host a workshop you can still order, 'Stampin' Up!' goodies from me email for more details: sally-johoughton@hotmail.co.uk
